Eastern Cape Showing Championships(Horses)

Somehow I managed to get lucky enough to have my holiday from College fall straight onto the weekend of the Eastern Cape Showing Championships being held in Port Elizabeth where I spent my holiday at home with family. Upon request of my most loyal customers in PE I attended to photograph the two day event literally the minute I stepped off of the plane in Port Elizabeth. Despite the long hours of photographing and editing, it's still my favourite place to be, granted I would have loved to have been competing myself. I managed to catch up with all of my friends back home, fall in love with photographing and horses all over again and get a long overdue dose of horses in my system.
My Photography came from me competing at these types of competitions and so it will always be the place where my photography revives if it happens to be in a bit of a mental block. I've seriously been struggling without my horse-riding(due to my knee surgery earlier in the year) and this is exactly what I needed to up my spirits for the remainder of my photography year. Although being at a competition without actually competing is quite tough, I still got to be in the presence of the animals I adore, whilst still broadening my photography clientele at the same time.
Shooting with my new camera and sports lens (70-200mm) makes my editing process ten times easier after these competitions where I can take anywhere from 500-5000 photographs per day of competition. The weight of the lens however is a lot to hold from 8-5 for two days straight and so I have definitely made the decision to acquire a monopod in the near future. I wasincredibly happy with the quality of pictures I took, moments I captured and of course the massive support given to me by my local riders back home. Despite being my livelihood, attending these competitions despite not competing does the world of good for me and I cannot wait to form the same kind of supporters down here in Cape Town soon.
