Portfolio Shoot #6

A Bride and her horse

This shoot took place in Tokai in a nearby forest and reserve with Megan and her horse Enigma. Megan is already married, her husband unfortunately could not be there for the shoot, but Megan and Enigma were still game to model for me. Megan had wanted Enigma present on her wedding day for photographs, but the mission of organising that alongside wedding planning is not easy and so it was nice for me to be able to give her this shoot in return for some more beautiful portfolio images. I've known Megan and Enigma for a fairly long time, so posing and working with them was easy.

Horses don't tend to like heading away from their friends early in the morning at breakfast time, however Enigma was superbly behaved and this helped us get some lovely photographs. The shoot started at about 8am and although I struggled slightly in the thick forest to help my camera get as much light as possible, the low light made for a dreamy "runaway bride" kind of feel to the photographs. I also managed to play around with different movement techniques such as panning, blur motion and freeze motion.

Once we headed into the reserve area, the ambiance changed from rustic, natural bride and horse to almost magical and princess like with the long green grass and thick bushes. To my delight we found a little crop of purple flowers where Megan hopped off to give me a chance to get some beautiful portrait shots of her and Enigma. When we had almost arrived back at the stables, we had a bunch of horses in a nearby field wander over to investigate this strange happening which afforded me some lovely shots to go in my fine art section as well.

This was my favourite of the three wedding shoots as the Shoot 1 was people only, Shoot 2 was showing a beginning connection between people and horses and this Shoot 3 showed an experienced horse and experienced rider with a long time connection sharing numerous special moments that I can relate to so easily. I had so much fun on this shoot and it was wonderful to reconnect with an old friend and old horsie friend. Thank you Megan and Enigma for a fun filled shoot that will no doubt yield plenty of photographs for me to use in my portfolio book! :)
